The RacksBrax idea was a light bulb moment on a sunny afternoon at the beach about 12 months ago. Our engineer was relaxing in the shade, mulling over the impracticality of the fixed and rapidly deteriorating awning on his Prado.
The nuisance of having to pull out tools, undo everything and storing them away in the garage, and risk losing bits and pieces in the process, was simply too big a hassle.
As a regular 4WDing family the awning would be used in the next few weeks anyway … so it was just easier to leave it on. This meant the awning was permanently exposed to the elements, chewing extra fuel every time he hit the road.
Our engineer realised he could simply fix one part of a hitch to his roof rack and the other to his awning so he would be able to simply add or remove the awning quickly. The thought of no more awnings burning up in the sun, getting drenched in the rain or dragging on fuel consumption sent him to the drawing board to sketch up some ideas.
One year on and the Australian designed and made RacksBrax HD Hitch not only allows 4X4 enthusiasts to take their awnings on or off in less than ten seconds, Prop Cleats also allow your awning to become free-standing, so you can set up camp and drive down the beach where the fish are biting without the hassle of fiddling with your awning!
Our engineer has thought of everything. The RacksBrax HD Hitch is designed to fit most roof-rack mounted awnings and conduit tube brackets and the built in barrel lock prevents theft. The stainless steel fasteners included in your pack look good whether the awning is on or not; and just to complete the picture there is also a tidy cover which pins and locks into place on your roof rack when you leave your awning at home.
